Fun and engaging are words that describe Design and Technology for pupils at Griffe Field Primary School. Within Key Stage 1 and 2, children’s creativity and imagination is captured through stimulating projects, developing important skills in: cooking and nutrition, textile design, working mechanisms and construction techniques. Through exciting and inspiring lessons, children experience the stages involved in designing appealing, functional products. They relish the challenge of generating and communicating their own ideas in visual ways, using existing products and ideas as inspiration. Through using a variety of tools and techniques, pupils at Griffe Field gain a vast knowledge of design and manufacturing, understanding the importance of evaluation in improving their products and designs.

The opportunity to work with outside agencies, to attend extra-curricular clubs and to participate in theme days, linked to design and engineering, adds to children’s overall experience of this exciting area of the curriculum. By the end of Key Stage 2, children leaving Griffe Field are confident, innovative, enterprising and resourceful young people, with the relevant skills to face an increasingly technological world.
