Applications should be made in writing at any time after a child is two years old. The Governor’s Admissions Committee will meet at least three times each year to allocate places for the following term. They will do so by applying the following criteria to all the children who we know to be interested in a place.

Places are awarded as follows:

1. Children who fall into one of the below ‘vulnerable children’ categories:
   • Children who are on the ‘looked after’ register in accordance with section 22 of the Children Act 1989
   • Children who are on the Child Protection ‘at risk’ register
2. Any 3 or 4 year old who are living in the catchment area of the school and have siblings of compulsory school age attending the school at the time of admission.
3. Any 3 or 4 year old without siblings attending school at the time of submission, living in the catchment area.
4. Any 3 or 4 year old from outside of the catchment area who have siblings attending school at the time of admission.
5. Any 3 or 4 year old without siblings attending school at the time of submission in the following order:
   • Rest of Heatherton
   • Wider area

If there are more children within a category then there are places available, places will be allocated in date of birth order, starting with the oldest child.

Children who have an education, health and care (EHC) plan that names the school are admitted before the oversubscription criteria is applied.

Admission points will be usually at the beginning of each term, subject to available places. Otherwise, as vacancies arise, Governors will award further places by applying the above criteria to the existing ‘Register of Interest’. Children would be expected to be able to take up at least two terms in the Nursery.
